Sometimes you tell the day by the bottle that you drink…
According to WUSF Radio this morning, today is the anniversary of Jose Marti giving his final lecture in Ybor City before his death. So everyone should take up a bottle or pint of Cigar City’s Jose Marti American Porter or their El Lector Dark English Mild in remembrance. Two of my favorite offerings from CCB.
Some exciting news on the Florida craft beer front, especially for those of us fans of craft beer in cans. Both Cigar City Brewing and Tampa Bay Brewing Company have announced that they will be releasing some of their beers in cans! CCB will have Jai Alai IPA and Florida Cracker Wit and TBBC will be canning Old Elephant Foot IPA to begin with and adding some others later on. This is great news for craft beer loving Floridians who like to take their adult beverages to the beach, but are often thwarted by “no glass” rules. I fully expect to see other Florida breweries following suit in the near future. *cough* Seventh Sun Brewing *cough* Check out this piece at TheFullPint.com for an interview with Joey Redner about Cigar City adding canning.
This coming weekend is the Brews by the Bay beer event at the Florida Aquarium. I have been before and it is a lot of fun. The beer selection should prove to be much better this year; Pepin Distributing is the major sponsor and they have made a huge push towards bringing more craft beer into the Tampa Bay area.
And finally, President Obama was in Florida this week to do the usual fundraising type things politicians do. he sat down with some folks in Orlando and had a beer! But WHY, Mr. President, are you drinking Guinness?! Don’t get me wrong, I love a pint o’ the black as much as the next guy, but if you want to promote your message of getting Americans back to work and supporting American businesses, drink an American beer! A locally brewed (or at least from the state you are visiting) craft beer! Florida has some really excellent offerings, and this was a great opportunity to support the local economy, local business, and show you “get it”. If you need help picking something, Mr. President, check out BeerInFlorida.com. You should do this with EVERY state you visit. Drink the locally brewed beer.
